Physical Education with Ms. Cliff Physical education is probably the second easiest subject, in my opinion. Right now we are in doing gymnastics and it is really easy for me because I am already in gymnastics. Even though I am in gymnastics, Ms. Cliff teaches us things a little different, and other things that we don't even do. Before we go to the mat room and do gymnastics, we do a 2 minute or 2 1/2 minute jog around the tennis courts. I really hate running so I do not enjoy this. On Thursdays, we do pacing. We run at a 8 minute mile pace around the field and if we get a smaller time than 2:30 then we are going to fast. But, if we are higher then we are going to slow.

Breast Stroke, Back Stroke, etc.
Right now in P.E. we are swimming and practicing the following in the title. In the picture on the left shows examples of the kinds of stokes we are practicing in our class. We are also learning how to use the strokes to retrieve something like a person or a thing. We practiced with a pool noodle and a person. We swim out using the breast stroke and swim back using back crawl.
From this I learned how to save a person's life in case they are drowning or what not. If it is a local pool then there are two tools you can use. They should have a life preserver ring and a pole with a hoop at the end. If someone is in need of help, you cold throw the life preserver NEAR them, not on them and pull them in.
On Thursdays, we practice pacing. We practice running at different times per mile. We run about a lap or two at a certain pace and back. We practice jogging and sprinting. We do not swim on Thursdays because of late start.

Gymnastics: Log Roll, Side Roll, etc.
We are doing gymnastics now in P.E. It is not specifically gymnastics but I would explain it as tumbling. We are learning how to do certain types of rolling with our bodies. We just learned the log roll. We got into our attendance rows and laid flat on our backs. Then we tightened our bodies, spread out our arms staright up, and then we rolled to the right and left. Then we tried side rolls. We sat on our feet and put our hand out on the ground. We bent down, chin almost touching our knees. Then, we turned ourselves over to the side and rolled. We rolled to both left and right.
Gymnastics: Frog Stand
This is a frog stand, in which helps you a little with your hand stand and gives you upper body strength. When you do a handstand, your arms need to hold you up and not let you drop down. A frog stand is just like a hand stand but lower and your elbows are pressed against your knees. To do a frog stand, you have to swat on your toes and stick your elbows against your knees, like the man is doing in the picture.
Gymnastics: Forward Roll
On the little diagram to the left, it shows step by step how to do a forward roll. Currently, we are practicing forward rolls for gymnastics. It is pretty simple actually. Ms.Cliff taught us to first get into a tuck, which is shown on the picture as "a", then put our palms down on the ground. Like in figure b, we push ourselves forward, still in tuck, and roll. In figure d there is a little difference. We do not hold our legs tucked in like that. We just simply get back up into a tuck and turn around. Once we are turned around, we do another forward roll and then go into another tuck.
This is really easy for me because I am already in gymnastics. When we do the forward roll, Ms. Cliff tells us to roll with the back of our head. But in my class they teach us to push off of our heads. This is kind of comfusing for me but I just do it the way I was taught first. So I get into a tuck like Ms.Cliff says, and then push off of my head and keep my knees together. Keeping my knees together is something they taught me in my gymnastcis calss. If you don't keep your knees together then they will go out and mess you up.

Headstand
The headstand stars out with a position called the tripod. We go on our knees, then set our palms at the sides of our knees. We then set our head on the floor, between our hands. We have to be able to see our hands when we set our head down. After that,we starighten our legs out. If we feel comfortable, then we are able to put our knees on our elbows and slowly lift up our legs to go into a headstand, (like in the picture). We started to to these steps slowly, so we could get it right and not get hurt.
I think this position hurts a little because when we put our heads on the floor, it makes my head a little sore. I cannot quite get into a headstand because it scares me when I lift up my legs to go into it. This position is just like a handstand, but instead of your hands supporting you; your head is.

Jump Roping Procedures
We have started to do jump roping procedures. We do double jumps and single jumps. A single jump is of course where you jump one over the rope. A double jump is when after you turn the rope, you hop twice and then over the rope. We also started to learn a side swing jump, but I will make another column explaining that. While we do jump rope, we sometimes in between do crunches, stretches, and push ups. Jump rope is a pretty easy thing to do, but we do some tricks that make me trip over my feet.
Side Swing into a Jump
Another thing we are working on with jump rope is the side swing jump. In the beginning, we swing the rope with both handles in each hand, and swing it to the right and then left repeatedly. Then if we are ready, we open up the rope with the handles and start to single jump. MS. Cliff then lets us try to go back to doing the side swing. So when we are ready to stop jumping we stop the rope, then do the side swing again immediately.
This concept is pretty easy to do once you get the hang of it. At first, I couldn't do it because I got a rope to long for my height. So, when I did the side swing, it got all tangled up before I could even try to do the jump. I measured and found the right rope for me and it is really easy. Sometimes though, I go to fast and trip over my feet and then I have to start all over again.

Tennis
We started tennis out with just hitting the tennis ball on the top of the racket. We then started to hit the ball against the floor with the racket. Then Ms. Cliff let us hit a towel with the racket. We practiced with the towel and racket for a few days and then moved onto hitting a thrown ball. Ms. Cliff had a couple of students on one side of a tennis court to throw the balls and a couple of other students with rackets on the other side. The students would throw the ball to the other student on the opposite side and they would hit it with the racket.
We could have hit the ball two ways, backhand and front hand Backhand is when you hold the racket with your back hand facing the front. Front hand is when you have your wrist facing the front. We would hit the ball front hand or back hand with the racket and then Ms. Cliff would see if we were good enough or not. Then, Ms. Cliff put the students that could actually hit the ball back and forth with another student. If a student couldn't hit the ball back and forth with another then they would have to continue hitting a thrown ball until they got it right.
